Clarkebond has been appointed to provide a range of engineering services on the first phase of a redevelopment scheme that will see the transformation of 12 council estates into high quality housing and communal facilities over the next 12 years.
The project, a joint venture between the London Borough of Havering and national developer Wates Residential, is the largest of its kind in London, delivering over 3,000 homes including high-quality new homes for existing residents, and starter homes for first-time buyers.
Clarkebond will be providing civil, structural and ground engineering plus other services including contamination assessment, flood risk assessment, air quality and rail engineering.
“This is the most exciting and ambitious council home building programme in London, and we are delighted to have been selected to work with the development team to bring this project forward,” states Bill Keane, Director, Clarkebond.
“There was a robust tendering process, but through our extensive experience of similar developments such as Erith Park, Dagenham Docks, and Springhead, we were able to demonstrate how we can work with a team to add value on such extensive schemes.”
The first three sites that will be developed are Waterloo Estate, Napier and New Plymouth and Solar, Serena and Sunrise. The following eight sites will be developed across a further 10 to 15 years.
