Celebrating the Remarkable Career of Nick Dainton: A Retirement Tribute

After over 55 years of outstanding service in the civil and structural engineering field, we bid farewell to Nick Dainton, our IMS Manager, as he embarks on a well-earned retirement.

Nick’s Clarkebond career

Nick’s career has been nothing short of remarkable. With extensive experience in the design and management of civil and structural engineering projects, both in the UK and overseas, Nick has worked on a diverse array of projects. These ranged from commercial and residential developments to industrial infrastructure. His expertise has spanned planning, design, and delivery, including design and build projects from concept to completion.

As a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Nick’s qualifications underscored his expertise and commitment to excellence. After retiring from full-time engineering work in 2010, Nick continued to contribute to the industry. He was a part-time Technical Services Manager, auditor, and construction design consultant, leaving a lasting legacy.

Team tributes to Nick

At Clarkebond, we have greatly benefited from Nick’s knowledge and leadership, and his presence will be missed by all who worked with him. Colleagues have shared some of their fondest memories of Nick:

“A gentleman that will be missed and I wish him a great full retirement. Always available to help and go to for engineering and CDM advice” – James Moores

“Nick is one of the most talented, knowledgeable and engaging people I have ever had the pleasure to work with. It has been an absolute pleasure learning from Nick – and he has been a real credit to CBUK. Nick’s structured approach to work has visibly shaped the company that Clarkebond have become, and he will be missed a lot” – Georges Mikhael

“Having worked with Nick for longer than I care to remember, I can honestly say he’s one of the most knowledgeable people I’ve ever met. No matter if it was a project he worked on 30+ years ago, or a more recent project, the level of detail he can remember about it is remarkable. He’s always been so supportive and helpful throughout my time with him at Clarkebond. I shall miss working with ‘Nick the Knowledge’ but wish him well now that he’s finally retiring.” – Lucy King

“Having worked with Nick for many years it is easy to say that his retirement is a loss to the industry. Nick has a wealth of knowledge that has been built up over the last 56 years. His last 37 years with Clarkebond have been important not only to the company but also those who worked alongside him. He has always been available and willing to provide engineering advice and wise words. Toward the latter section of his time at Clarkebond, Nick’s engineering knowledge has made his role of establishing, maintaining, and auditing the QA system possible and successful, there is no pulling of wool over his eyes during an audit regardless of the engineering complexity or vain attempt to throw if off the scent! Nick is a great Engineer and great person of impeccable character; he will be missed by all. We wish him a long, happy retirement.” – Mark Rowett

One of Nick’s closest colleagues, John Pavey gave a heartfelt speech at the Bristol Office today. He shared that “Nick has been a wealth of knowledge and a great colleague who you could rely on. It has been a pleasure working with you. We wish you all the best for you FULL retirement.”

We want to express our sincere gratitude to Nick for his decades of dedication and service to the engineering profession. Nick’s legacy will continue to inspire all of us at Clarkebond.

We wish him all the best as he enjoys the next chapter of his life.
