A brand new £11m CAMHS facility, run by Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CFT) has been completed and will be receiving patients shortly.
Located at Bodmin Hospital, the new Sowenna project was procured and funded through the NHS P22 procurement framework with further support provided from community groups, the Invictus Trust and the National Lottery, to enhance the facility and provide an on-site café.
Clarkebond provided civil and structural engineering design services for the project as well as geotechnical, flood risk and transportation services to support the planning and construction process of the facility.
The varied internal layout and complex building services made the steel framed building much more complicated and intricate than it may appear. Clarkebond’s ability to model all elements of a project in 3D using the latest BIM software allowed us to fully co-ordinate this complex structure with the below ground drainage as well as the architectural and internal building services layouts to provide the contractor with a buildable solution.
The new 14-bed two-storey facility includes a multipurpose activity barn for team sports and performance arts; parental accommodation to allow families to stay over; a café; therapeutic gardens, a state-of-the-art sensory room and a specialist education block.
